Holiday injuries
What are the most common injuries on holiday?
No one expects to get hurt on holiday, but injuries abroad are more common than most people think. But what are the most common holiday injuries?
Accidents can happen anywhere and with travel being a huge part of many people’s lives, accidents and injuries still happen. In a survey we conducted, we found that 27% of holidaymakers have had an accident or witnessed a travel partner have an accident.
Most common holiday injuries
Typical accidents occurring on holiday include:
- Slips, trips or falls due to wet flooring or misplaced objects.
- Swimming pool accidents caused by a lack of safety precautions or supervision.
- Road accidents overseas that were not your fault.
- Injuries on foreign public transport.
- Injuries during a day excursion.
- Injuries sustained on a flight.
Our research found that the most common injuries while on holiday are slips, trips or falls on an excursion or in the hotel, with more than 60% of holidaymakers experiencing this.
The other results of our research are as follows:
Travel claims
Despite 25% of people having accessed emergency care on holiday, only 11% of people have ever made a claim for accidents whilst on holiday.
Previous research we undertook highlighted that many people decide not to claim due to expensive legal fees. However, at Slater and Gordon we aim to reduce the stress of legal fees. As one of Britain's biggest specialist injury claims firms, we offer funding on a No Win No Fee basis. Funding your compensation claim with a No Win No Fee agreement means you can seek compensation for your injuries without any financial risk.
If you have an accident abroad, you may be able to make a claim, though certain requirements and eligibility need to be met. Those include:
- A third party must have been negligent.
- Due to negligence, you have sustained injuries.
- There is strong evidence to back your claim.
In some cases, if you book a package holiday with a UK-based travel agent, any accidents will be the responsibility of the tour operator or the agent you booked with. This is only if there is evidence to support your claim.
