Eight-figure settlement for birth injuries

19 September 2019

An eight-figure settlement was awarded to a woman for injuries sustained at birth, which led to severe cerebral palsy.

What Happened: A number of failures by hospital staff exposed our client to injuries when she was born, including a delay in delivery and failures to act upon mistakes that had been made, which resulted in brain damage.

Impact: As a result our client suffered a severe cerebral palsy resulting in spastic quadriplegia with a speech impediment and severe restrictions on mobility requiring constant care.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: We brought a medical negligence claim following instruction from our client’s parents. Some months after, the defendant admitted liability. We then secured an immediate and substantial interim payment for our client.

Decision: The case settled at a joint settlement meeting shortly before trial for a lump sum of £4,145,000 plus periodical payments totalling in excess of £18 million.
