Pedestrian Knocked Down by Vehicle Awarded Five-Figure Settlement

02 August 2017

A pedestrian who lost her teeth when she was knocked down by a negligent driver won a five-figure settlement following successful legal action.

Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Alexander Howe is a personal injury litigation executive at Slater and Gordon in Sheffield.

Settlement: £25,000.

What Happened: Our client was walking across the road when a motorist failed to stop and ran them over.

Impact: Our client suffered from multiple fractured teeth, which needed to be replaced and will need future treatment every 10 years. She also suffered severe soft tissue injuries to her back and neck, along with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

As a result, our client needed cognitive behavioural therapy to help with the PTSD, physiotherapy and acupuncture for her back injuries.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: Liability was initially disputed by the driver’s insurer, however, we finally got the insurers to take responsibility. We arranged for our client to see multiple medical experts, such as an orthopaedic surgeon, dental expert and psychologist. Further to this we arranged for our client to have and MRI scan, CBT treatment and obtained costs for the future dental treatment and steroid injections.

Decision: Settlement of £25,000.
