Scientist Injured by ‘Safe Bomb’ Receives Six-Figure Settlement
15 June 2017
A six-figure settlement was awarded to a scientist who was working in a Ministry of Defence laboratory when a bomb exploded, causing serious injuries.
Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Tracey Benson is a senior associate specialising in person injury claims at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in London.
Settlement: Six-figure settlement.
What Happened: My client, Lee Peters, a forensic and biometric contractor, had been working in the MOD laboratory in Kandahar, when a small plastic box was brought in for forensic testing and exploded, maiming his left hand and damaging his eye sight.
Impact: The chemical weapon ripped away his index, third and ring finger down to the knuckle. It also blew out the palm of his hand and penetrated his eyes with shards of plastic. Lee suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, permanent scarring and damaged vision.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: A catalogue of errors had been made at Lee’s workplace, which led to this traumatic experience. We obtained medical evidence and brought an employers’ liability claim for damages sustained.
Decision: A six-figure settlement was awarded.
