A cyclist was awarded a five-figure settlement following a road traffic accident that resulted in injuries and a loss of earnings.

Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Alexander Howe is a personal injury litigation executive at Slater and Gordon in Sheffield.

Settlement: £18,500.

What Happened: Our client was riding his bicycle when the defendant, who was driving their vehicle in the opposite direction, suddenly turned across his path and knocked him off his bicycle.

Impact: Our client suffered fractures to his collarbone and wrist, which required surgery and resulted in scarring as well as a loss of earnings from time off work.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: We brought a personal injury claim to the defendant’s insurer who initially did not admit liability for the accident.

We obtained medical evidence and provided the defendant’s insurers with further information.

Decision: The defendant’s insurers admitted liability and a settlement of £18,500 was agreed.
