Seven-Figure Settlement For Disabled Daughter of Road Crash Victim

01 December 2016

Following the tragic death of a single parent in a road traffic accident, a seven-figure settlement was awarded to her disabled daughter to help with her care needs.

Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Steve Hill is a personal injury lawyer at Slater and Gordon in Manchester.

Settlement: £1,100,000

What Happened: Our client’s mother was a passenger in a driver’s vehicle when it was involved in a road traffic accident.

Impact: Tragically, our client’s mother was killed and survived by her daughter, who is severely disabled. Prior to their death, our client’s mother provided her with 24 hour care. Our client was unable to look after herself and placed in a care home.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: We pursued a claim on behalf of the estate, of which our client was the beneficiary. We immediately involved the court of protection as she did not have capacity to deal with finances.

In order to assess the value of the case, it was necessary to obtain some evidence about the extent to which our client’s mother would have been required to care for them, had the accident not happened.

Expert evidence was obtained and the parties entered into negotiations before reaching the agreed settlement.

Decision: £1,100,000
