Five-Figure Settlement For Fall on Unlit Resort Steps
18 October 2016
A holidaymaker received five-figure compensation after falling on unlit steps and breaking her wrist at a resort in Cyprus.
Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Sundeesh Nandra is a personal injury paralegal specialising in travel litigation at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in London.
What Happened: Our client was on a package holiday in Cyprus. On her first night at the hotel, she was unable to sleep because of noise coming from outside the hotel and moved to another room. She wasn’t guided by hotel staff and, on her way, she ended up in the garden area and slipped and fell on a step that she was unable to see.
Impact: She broke her wrist and, as a result suffered financial losses.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: We pursued a claim on our client's behalf against the UK tour operator with whom she had booked the package holiday. Liability for the accident was denied so legal proceedings were issued. We put forward an offer to settle, which our client was happy with and which was accepted by the tour operator.
Decision: Settlement of £18,500.
