Compensation For Cyclist Knocked Off Bike in Cycle Lane

04 October 2016

A cyclist was awarded a four-figure settlement for his injuries and losses suffered when he was knocked off his bike in a cycle lane.

Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Rachel Coulson is a chartered legal executive and personal injury lawyer at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Sheffield.

Settlement: £4,000

What Happened: Our client was cycling along a cycle path on his way to work when the defendant driver cut across his path to enter a car park, knocking him off his bike.

Impact: Our client sustained soft tissue damage and psychological injuries preventing him from returning to cycling for his commute.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: The defendant’s insurers admitted liability, but would not agree to compensate our client for the damage to his bike – which was written off in the accident –  or for the travel expenses he incurred for a hire car by no longer being able to commute by bicycle.

We arranged physiotherapy to aid his recovery, which they also refused to pay for.

The matter proceeded to a court hearing and we successfully managed to recover the cost of a replacement bike, treatment costs, travel expenses and also an increase in the defendant’s offer for his general damages, which compensate for the pain and suffering caused.

Decision: Settlement of £4,000
