An ex-worker at Corby Steelworks was awarded a five-figure settlement for exposure to asbestos, which led to a severe asbestos-related disease.
Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Louise Larkin is a litigation executive in the chest and asbestos group at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Liverpool.
Settlement Value: £30,000
What Happened: Our client worked as a labourer for Halsen Insulation & Engineering Company Ltd in 1974. During this time he was exposed to asbestos whilst working in the vicinity of various tradesmen including laggers.
Our client worked at the Corby Steelworks when he was subjected to significant quantities of airborne asbestos dust as a result of workers mixing, preparing and applying asbestos insulation in close proximity to him.
Impact: Our client was subsequently diagnosed with pleural thickening in 2014.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: Our client instructed us in relation to an asbestos compensation claim. The claim settled very quickly as liability was admitted at an early stage, and the case was concluded by way of negotiation.
Decision: Settlement of £30,000.
