Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Andrew Zajac specialises in serious injury claims at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Cambridge.
What Happened: Our client was travelling within the 30mph speed limit when another car pulled out of a side road into his path. Our client was unable to avoid a collision.
Impact: He suffered significant injuries, including a fractured pelvis, fractured vertebra, nerve damage resulting in numbness and pins and needles in his hand, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The injury has had a significant impact on our client’s life. He needed surgery to repair his pelvis, spent weeks in hospital and was off work for more than three months. He had to use orthotics and also required physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and psychological therapy.
It is expected that our client will be left with permanent symptoms as a result of the injury to his back and pelvis and may require hip replacement surgery. He continues to experience psychological symptoms and further treatment has been recommended in the form of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
How Slater and Gordon Helped: We dealt with the case from the outset, including appointing a case manager to co-ordinate our client’s rehabilitation. It took more than five months for the defendant’s insurers to admit that the car driver was at fault for the accident and they eventually made a £35,000 offer to settle. We advised our client against this as at that stage his treatment was ongoing and it was not clear to what extent his injuries would impact on his future life.
Decision: Following negotiations with the driver’s insurers, they made a further offer which our client was happy with and the case eventually settled for £91,100.
