Damages Awarded for Romanian Mother Killed in Motorway Crash

23 June 2016

A six-figure settlement was awarded to the family of a Romanian woman who was fatally injured by a reckless driver on the motorway.

Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Matthew Claxson is a Principal Lawyer at Slater and Gordon in London, specialising in serious injury claims.

Settlement: £300,000

What Happened: Our client’s partner was a passenger in a car that was struck from behind by a lorry when it stopped in the first lane of a motorway.

Impact: She was killed, leaving behind two dependents: her partner and daughter, aged two at the time of the incident.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: Our client and his partner were both from Romania.

Whilst the defendant – the driver of the lorry - admitted responsibility, they alleged that a seatbelt had not been worn at the time of the incident, which, if accepted may have an impact upon the level of compensation – a possible reduction between 15 to 25 per cent.

We brought a claim against the driver of the vehicle, who was later convicted of dangerous driving.

Decision: A settlement of £300,000 was awarded.
