A man received personal injury compensation after being knocked over by a car in the supermarket where he worked.

Slater and Gordon Fee Earner: Nicholas Collins is a Senior Personal Injury Solicitor at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Cardiff.

Settlement value: £68,000

What happened: Our client worked in a supermarket and one day went to apprehend a suspected shop lifter in the car park with a colleague.

The suspected shoplifted attempted to avoid detention by driving away at speed such that our client was thrown to the ground and sustained injuries.

Impact: Our client sustained a temporary paralysis of the arm (brachial plexus injury) and an exacerbation of previously existing lower back pain.

How Slater and Gordon Helped: Our client had previously approached two other solicitors’ firms who did not identify the possible claims.

Our client then approached Slater and Gordon and we advised that it is possible to pursue an insurance company even where there may have been a deliberate act of driving into someone and where the accident wasn’t on the public highway.

Decision: We settled the claim on behalf of our client who received £68,000 damages.
