Compensation for Fall on Holiday Hotel Staircase

21 October 2015

A child’s fall on a slippery holiday hotel staircase in Tunisia resulted in a settlement of damages awarded to the child’s father.

Slater and Gordon Lawyer: Simon Weilding is a Travel Lawyer at Slater and Gordon in Manchester.

Settlement: £6,300

What Happened: A client and his family on a package holiday in Tunisia were staying in accommodation based over two floors.

Our client, who was downstairs, heard his child get up in the night. The iron staircase in the accommodation was slippery and the child slipped and fell down the stairs. Our client managed to catch him at the bottom of the stairs but, as he did so, the child’s teeth caught into his nose.

Impact: Our client suffered a nasty laceration to the nose requiring stitches and was left with scarring.

How Did Slater and Gordon Help? We successfully brought a claim against the Tour Operator due to the dangerous state of the stairs and lack of adequate lighting.

Decision: The case settled for £6,300.
