Aspiring Basketball Player Injured in Road Traffic Collision
08 October 2015
Our client was a rear seat passenger in a vehicle which collided with an oncoming vehicle resulting in a road traffic collision.
Settlement Value: £115,000
Slater and Gordon Solicitor: Nic Collins is a Senior Personal Injury Lawyer at Slater and Gordon Lawyers in Cardiff.
What Happened: The vehicle, in which the our client was a rear seat passenger, was driven at high speed, such that it veered onto the wrong side of the road and collided with an oncoming vehicle.
Our client sustained multiple fractures requiring surgery.
Impact: Our client was a promising young basketball player and lost the opportunity to develop his playing potential. Allegations of contributory negligence were relevant relating to a failure to wear a seatbelt and whether that had an impact on the injuries sustained.
How Slater and Gordon Helped: We also argued that loss of amenity should reflect the possible impact on our client’s basketball playing career and pursued an argument that in any event the injuries caused a delay in him entering the labour market with a consequent additional loss of earnings.
Decision: The claim was settled to the value of £115,000.
