Elderly man injured after falling down steps in need of repair

11 March 2014

Our client was an elderly gentleman who was visiting London with his wife when he fell down some steps in need of repair.

What happened: Whilst out walking with his wife, our client fell down a set of steps close to Victoria Embankment and hit his head on a handrail post. A section of one of the steps was missing which is how he lost his footing.

Impact: Our client suffered a compression fracture of his C1 cervical vertebra, and endured considerable pain, reduced function and loss of mobility. Medical evidence suggested that 50% of his symptoms were incident related, with the remainder due to pre-existing conditions, despite the fact that he had enjoyed ballroom dancing to a highly proficient level before his accident.

How Slater and Gordon helped: We successfully settled our client's claim for a settlement which will allow him to obtain the rehabilitation, treatment and any aids he might need now and in the future to regain his independence.
