Misuse of private information and libel claims brought against the Daily Mirror

28 January 2010

Slater and Gordon Lawyers acted in this sensitive and highly emotional case on behalf of 21 year old Michael Costaschuk in his claim for misuse of private information and libel in respect of an article in the Daily Mirror and on its website. The article had reported on the tragic suicide of our client’s twin brother, and had falsely suggested that he and our client had a suicide pact. The matter was settled by the Daily Mirror. Our client was provided with a private letter of apology; an apology published both in the Daily Mirror newspaper and online, payment of substantial damages and his legal costs.
