An 83 yr old former Fire Officer at AC Delco was diagnosed with symptoms suggestive of Mesothelioma cancer.
His evidence was that the factory he worked in had over 200 pieces of fire equipment including fire blankets made from asbestos. Every week he had to roll and unroll two or more fire blankets to check them for safety. Once re-rolled, the blankets left behind asbestos dust and fibres on the floor and such was his exposure.
Medical evidence confirmed that he was, in all likelihood, suffering from malignant Mesothelioma although the Claimant refused further tests so that he could get on with his life to his best extent, as he took on board the thought that further tests would not assist in his treatment nor extend his life expectancy. The medical report suggested that death within 6 months was probable.
Our specialist team of Mesothelioma Lawyers settled this case for £80,000 compensation on a full and final basis, further to the Claimant's specific instructions; despite advice as to alternative settlement options including dependency after his death.
Mesothelioma cancer is expected to kill thousands more people in the years to come.
