Metropolitan Police officer pursues a claim for libel
02 October 2008
On 6 January 2008, the Sunday Express published an article concerning our client, a Metropolitan Police officer, alleging that she had made checks on the Police National Computer and passed classified information on to a career criminal and his gang after she began an affair with him. The article also suggested that our client had threatened to sue the Metropolitan Police for wrongful arrest and sexual and racial discrimination, embarrassing the Met into reinstating her. We pursued a claim for libel on behalf of the officer, which was settled with Express Newspapers publishing an apology and paying damages and costs of £15,000.
