Matthew Tomlinson, our Head of Serious Injury in the North

Matthew Tomlinson

Head of Serious Injury - North

I always take a proactive approach to litigation and fight hard for justice for the injured and traumatised individuals that I represent.

Get to know Matthew

I began my career in law in 1998, working at Slater and Gordon, and qualified as a solicitor in 2004. I’m now a principal lawyer and head of the serious injury department in the North.

I’ve specialised in personal injury for the whole of my career and have specific expertise in accidents and illness suffered at work as well as occupational stress and military claims.

My expertise has helped claimants secure substantial compensation payments and rehabilitation for a range of devastating accidents involving fatal injury, spinal cord injury, brain injury, amputation and post-traumatic stress disorder.

I also manage relationships with many of our trade union and Police Federation partners.

Career highlights

I’ve had many career highlights over the years, but most recently include securing large settlements for:

Recognition

I am accredited as a Senior Litigator by the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

For the past several years, I’ve been ranked in independent legal guide, Chambers and Partners, as a Band 1 leader in the field of personal injury.

The 2023 edition of the guide states: "Matthew Tomlinson could not have been more approachable, professional and skilled in communication."

I’ve also been recommended by independent legal guide, the Legal 500, for the past several years.

Earlier in my career, I also won ‘Young Achiever of the Year’ at the 2010 Personal Injury Awards.

The extra mile

I’m a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) and the Law Society.

I regularly speak at health and safety conferences and provide bespoke lectures on issues involving safety within the workplace.

I also deliver in-house training to lawyers on procedure, liability and assessment of quantum.
