Cooperation between Spire Healthcare and lead lawyers helping to compensate patients treated by Ian Paterson
We represented a vast number of Ian Paterson’s patients and ensured they achieved compensation and justice for the unnecessary or inappropriate treatment they received.
One of the UK’s leading specialist law firms.
We are proud to have partnerships with national charities and be recognised in the latest legal directories.
In 2017, Spire Healthcare set up a compensation fund for victims of Ian Paterson, and this was administered by the two lead law firms Slater and Gordon and Thompsons Solicitors. This formed part of the £37 million-pound settlement agreed between the parties in September 2017.
In 2021, following the 2020 publication of the Independent Inquiry Report, Spire Healthcare voluntarily initiated a new fund for patients harmed by Ian Paterson.
Due to their experience and expertise with the first fund, Spire approached Slater and Gordon and Thompsons Solicitors and asked them to administer the new fund. Thompsons Solicitors and Slater and Gordon have the day-to-day role of administering the fund and managing the timely investigation of claims, independently from Spire Healthcare. Regulated processes are in place to ensure claims are managed appropriately.
The new fund enables compensation to victims without initiating court proceedings.
The fund's main objective is the swift, fair, and equitable compensation of Ian Paterson's victims. Spire Healthcare, Slater and Gordon, and Thompsons Solicitors are committed to putting Ian Paterson’s victims at the centre of this process and working together to support the victims and act in their best interests.
If you were a patient of Ian Paterson, you might be eligible for compensation. To assess your eligibility, simply register your details with one of our medical negligence experts specialising in the Paterson case and we will guide you through the process.
Jade Edgington was one of many patients referred to convicted surgeon, Paterson.
As a former patient of Ian Paterson, Jade discusses the changes that hospital trusts must make so that this does not happen again, while raising awareness of what to look out for when considering surgery. Paterson worked at hospitals run by the Heart of England NHS Trust and Spire Healthcare from 1993 to 2012. More than 700 patients underwent extensive, life-changing operations for no medically justifiable reason.
