A clinical negligence specialist has been chosen as the new chair of Merseyside Women Lawyers Division.
Sara Davies, who works at Slater and Gordon in Liverpool, will take over the reins from retiring chairperson and colleague Jennifer Crompton.
The 27-year-old, from Mossley Hill, served as vice-chair of the group last year and says she is already planning a range of social events to engage and inspire members. Ideas include an evening where junior lawyers are given the opportunity to meet and greet some of the region’s leading females from the legal industry.
Sara said: “I’ve been a member for several years now and it’s a great way to get to know people, especially for trainee lawyers or those who are just starting out.
“We’re a really friendly bunch and I found it hugely helpful to get advice from other women in the industry about how to progress my career.
“In the past the legal profession may have been seen as male-dominated, but there’s a lot more women coming through now which is great and it’s just about making sure they’ve got the right support.”
The Women Lawyers Division, part of the Law Society, also supports nominated charities and last year raised £1,300 for Liverpool’s Whitechapel Centre which helps the city’s homeless. This year’s is Marie Curie, which cares and supports people and their families through terminal illness, and proceeds from fundraisers – including a popular annual quiz – will be given to a local hospice.
Sara, who qualified as a lawyer in 2014, added: “I’m really proud and excited to be elected as chairperson and particularly to be supporting Marie Curie which does such great work caring for people in our community.”
