Clinical negligence compensation has been granted to the parents of a baby boy who died of meningitis.
Craig Bushell and Jane Hooks took legal action against the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust after their son Bobby passed away at the age of just 13 months in August 2007.
The parents took Bobby to Doncaster Royal Infirmary when he fell ill and despite the fact he was screaming in pain in the waiting room and has developed three non-blanching rashes on his body, a senior doctor said he was only suffering with a virus and just needed to be monitored.
Ms Hooks insisted on receiving a second opinion but her concerns were dismissed as "hysterical", Sheffield County Court heard.
Another doctor eventually re-examined Bobby several hours later and it was decided that he needed to be treated at Sheffield Children's Hospital. However, the child passed away four hours later.
