Clinical negligence worth more than £1 million has been awarded by an NHS body after numerous compensation claims were launched against the same surgeon.
The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust has already settled 13 such cases in the recent past following complaints against work completed by Manjit Bhamra and has also admitted it has yet to settle another 51 claims concerning the same professional.
In addition, the body expects up to another 26 cases to be started on top of these, bringing the total to 90.
Mr Bhamra worked as a full-time orthopaedic surgeon and specialised in hip replacements for the trust up until September 2007 and has since moved to the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals Trust.
Despite the high number of grievances brought forward about his practice, his new employer has insisted it has "no concern about any aspect" of his work.
A spokesperson for the Rotherham trust commented: "At this stage, we are unclear how many claims received will result in compensation being paid."
