£300m Mesothelioma Compensation Programme Unveiled
Thousands of people across the UK are set to benefit from a new support initiative relating to Mesothelioma compensation claims.
As of yesterday (July 25th), the UK Government established a fund for people who are affected by the fatal asbestos-related disease Mesothelioma but are not able to pursue legal action as they cannot trace a liable company or insurer.
This new scheme will enable around 3,000 individuals in this position to receive approximately £300 million in Mesothelioma compensation in its first ten years of existence.
At present, in excess of 300 people with this terminal Mesothelioma are not able to go down the standard route of claiming compensation for Mesothelioma and it is hoped the programme will reduce this figure.
Minister for Welfare Lord Freud unveiled the plan, which has been created by the UK Government and the Association of British Insurers; and indicated it represents a landmark moment.
"For the first time, sufferers of diffuse Mesothelioma who cannot trace either a liable employer or employers' liability insurer, will have access to extra payments," he noted.
