Ex-hospital worker seeks unfair dismissal damages
Unfair dismissal compensation is being sought by a former hospital worker on the basis she was a victim of disability discrimination.
Terri Ainley is taking legal action against the City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust - a body with more than 4,500 employees - through an employment tribunal as she feels aggrieved at the way she was treated, the Sunderland Echo reports.
The 47-year-old has told her hearing in Newcastle that she was "set up to fail" by managers there when she switched jobs due to her disability.
Ms Ainley explained that she had previously worked as an ophthalmic photographer but had to give this role up due to chronic back pain and then took on a position as a bereavement co-ordinator.
However, she insists that she was put in an "impossible situation" as the trust offered no "reasonable adjustments" to her previous position that would have enabled her to continue in that job regardless of her medical state.
