Stuart Gray 'made redundant by Portsmouth FC'

Stuart Gray has become the latest member of staff at Portsmouth Football Club to face redundancy, it has emerged.

According to BBC Radio Solent, the assistant manager has been informed he is to lose his job as the club - which was relegated to League One from the Championship last Saturday (April 21st) - battles debts of around £58 million.

Earlier this week, The News reported that administrator Trevor Birch had informed both Mr Gray and fellow assistant Guy Whittingham that one of them would be fired as part of Pompey's extensive cost-cutting measures.

The outfit currently has an unmanageable wage bill of £12 million and all playing and coaching staff have been asked to take pay cuts to keep the club afloat, while 30 employees lost their jobs last Wednesday.

And it has now been reported that Mr Gray will leave Fratton Park with immediate effect as the club cannot afford to fulfil his contract.
