Media professionals facing redundancy

Several media professionals may require advice from employment law experts in the near future after it emerged they are in danger of redundancy.

It has emerged today (February 29th) that around ten members of staff at Aberdeen Journals - which produces the Press and Journal and Evening Express titles - will lose their jobs in the near future.

Parent publishing company DC Thomson - which was first established in 1905 - has announced that keeping its city centre store in Aberdeen open is "no longer financially viable", meaning job losses are required before its closure next month.

A spokeswoman indicated the firm will attempt to minimise redundancies through redeployment, turnover of staff and the management of vacancies, but added that "internal consultations" are now underway with the people affected by this move.

"We intend to work with our staff to ensure the best possible outcome for each individual during this difficult period," she continued.
