Child carer wins unfair dismissal claim
Unfair dismissal compensation has been awarded to a child carer who was fired after suffering a back injury at work.
Claire Moore took Paint Pots Pre-school and Nursery - an organisation with seven locations in Southampton - to an employment tribunal on the grounds she had been removed from her position with the company unjustly.
The 34-year-old - who worked for the firm for nine years - told the case she sustained a back injury while lifting a box of food from her car at one of the nurseries and was subsequently summoned to several disciplinary hearings about whether or not she could still fulfil her duties.
Ms Moore was eventually fired in April last year but insisted this decision was unfair and has now been granted damages.
She indicated that the fact she has been unable to get a reference from her former employer means she has not been able to get a new job since leaving.
