Clinical negligence compensation is being sought by a family after an elderly loved one passed away due to infected bedsores.
According to the Surrey Mirror, Pamela Goddard died in October 2008 at East Surrey Hospital after she developed a blood disorder from the skin lesions caused by her not being moved in bed often enough.
At the time of her death, the 82-year-old was undergoing treatment for breast cancer, but her family claim doctors decided to withdraw her treatment for the condition without telling them and failed to treat her properly while she was alive.
Consequently, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust - an organisation with 3,300 members of staff - is now facing a claim for damages from Ms Goddard's family.
Her son Adrian, who now lives in New York, told the news source: "Our mother was a very vital, much-loved woman and it's very difficult for us to accept what has happened."
