Compensation of around £4.5 million has been awarded to a consultant on the grounds of unfair dismissal and discrimination.
Dr Eva Michalak took the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust - an institution that was formed in April 2002 and now has more than 8,500 members of staff - to an employment tribunal after initially leaving her role there in 2003.
The 53-year-old obstetrician sued on the basis that she was fired purely because she was pregnant after the "campaign" against her from senior management began when she was seven months in gestation.
Dr Michalak told the tribunal she then suffered from serious post-traumatic stress disorder to the point of becoming suicidal.
The court ruled she had been sacked for no reason other than because she was carrying a child and therefore granted her damages for unfair dismissal, as well as sex discrimination.
Dr Michalak commented: "They destroyed my life, my health and my career ... the last seven years have been a living hell."
