Expert redundancy advice could be required by 70 members of staff at one local authority after it emerged their employer is to implement a budget cut in 2012.
According to the Staffordshire Sentinel, Cheshire East, Chester West and Chester councils need to reduce their joint ICT expenditure by £1.6 million next year, meaning many professionals are set to lose their jobs.
No final decisions on the workers who will be affected are to be made until after a three-month consultation period that is scheduled to get underway before the end of the year.
However, a report conducted by officials at the body has found a "significant overspend" in this area, so redundancies among the 217 individuals employed in this arm of its remit are inevitable.
This comes after it was announced that some 500 jobs at Bradford Council are under threat due to the fact the organisation is to operate on a budget of £30 million less in 2012.
