Woman seeks compensation from Johnson & Johnson
Personal injury compensation is being sought by an ex-gymnast who requires surgery after having a hip resurfacing implant.
According to the Bath Chronicle, Penny Brown acted as the "poster lady" for the Articulator Surface Replacement (ASR) on offer from DePuy - an arm of Johnson & Johnson, a global firm that employs some 116,000 people - but was left in severe pain after undergoing the treatment.
Consequently, the 51-year-old has now been told by medical experts that she will need an operation to correct the damage caused by the product after it wore down too quickly.
As such, she is now one of more than 300 UK residents pursuing a damages claim against the company.
Ms Brown told the news source she had the ASR in 2004 but began feeling pain around five years later after first being part of the treatment's promotional team.
"My life has been devastated and I not only feel let down personally but also feel guilty that I might have encouraged others to have the ASR implanted," she added.
