Personal injury compensation totalling £3 million has been awarded to a woman who sustained severe brain damage during a road traffic accident.
Vicki Hart, who is now 22-years-old, sustained extensive injuries including fractures to her neck and skull as well as a blood clot in her head when she was hit by a taxi in the North Yorkshire town of Guisborough in January 2004.
Medical professionals had expected Ms Hart to die from her ordeal, but she survived despite now requiring round-the-clock care and being permanently disabled.
She took legal action against the driver of the vehicle and, during a case heard at the High Court in London, Mr Justice Spencer indicated he had "no hesitation" in granting Ms Hart a damages sum that should cover her care costs for life.
Recently, This is South Wales reported that a woman is seeking at least £300,000 in compensation from her own grandmother following a road traffic accident in Oxfordshire in April 2003.
