Blackpool FC Captain wins employment grievance case
Professional footballer Charlie Adam has won a grievance case against his employers which has resulted in him being awarded a £20,000 settlement for an unpaid bonus.
The captain of Blackpool Football Club had a contractual dispute with the sporting organisation heard by a Premier League tribunal, in which he claimed to be owed the sum due to a special clause in his agreement relating to whether Blackpool avoided relegation from the Championship to League One.
However, in contrast to the expectations of the club itself and many analysts, Blackpool instead won promotion to the Premier League through the play-off system with a victory over Cardiff City in the final at Wembley.
Therefore, the club's hierarchy decided to replace these bonuses with new performance-related benefits, but the Premier League has ruled in the player's favour, which could trigger some of his teammates to pursue a similar course of action, the Daily Mirror reports.
