A man who suffered spinal injuries in a road traffic accident has been awarded compensation.
In October 2003, Anthony Bennett was a backseat passenger in a car being driven by his friend when it crashed, the Cornish Guardian reports.
The driver died as a result of the impact and three other passengers as well as Mr Bennett were also involved in the incident, which occurred by the market town of Liskeard near Plymouth.
As a result of the force of the crash, the 26-year-old has been left a paraplegic.
In a new development, he has been awarded £2.3 million by a judge in the High Court and he will receive further payments on an annual basis.
His legal representative pointed out that if he had received only a lump sum, there was a risk the money would have run out at some stage, particularly in the context of the current economic problems.
