Woman awarded compensation over 'botched surgery'
A woman who alleges she was the victim of botched surgery has been awarded compensation for her suffering.
Yvonne Laidlaw underwent a breast reconstruction procedure after having a mastectomy following her diagnosis with cancer, the Daily Mail reports.
The 57-year-old was treated at the Royal Bolton Hospital, which employs around 3,660 staff members.
She claims she experienced pain for years after the operation and was left with one breast smaller than the other.
In a new development, the mother-of-one has been awarded money by the health trust, but the organisation did not accept liability.
Commenting on how the surgery affected her, Ms Laidlaw said: "I won't go swimming, never mind wear a bikini. I'm pleased with the settlement, but this case was never about money for me. I just wanted to be heard."
A spokesman for Royal Bolton Hospital said her treatment had been of an "entirely appropriate" standard, but accepted she had been unhappy with the "cosmetic" outcome.
