An actor has been successful in his claims of libel against a UK newspaper.
Simon Bowman, who is famed for various West End appearances - including in The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables - took legal action over allegations that he was romantically linked with fellow performer Hannah Waterman.
The case centred on a Daily Mirror story in which it was suggested that he and the former EastEnders star, who had recently split up with Ricky Groves, were involved with each other.
Recently, the two parties went to a High Court hearing because they could not agree on the level of compensation that should be awarded.
Mr Justice Eady remarked: "There is no doubt that this claimant took the suggestion seriously and incurred embarrassment and some genuine distress."
A level of damages was initially set at £8,500, but this was cut in half to account for the Mirror Group's early apology.
