A man whose wife died five days after giving birth to their daughter has accused the hospital responsible for her care of clinical negligence.
Claire Joel passed away at the Medway Maritime Hospital in October last year, the Kent News reports.
During a recent inquest, coroner Roger Sykes said there had been "gross failures" to provide the basic care and treatment that the 28-year-old required.
For example, there had been an unacceptable delay in inducing labour and antibiotics had not been administered before and after an emergency Caesarean section was conducted.
Responding to the coroner's conclusions, Ms Joel's widow Mark said: "I can only hope that the hospital has learned from the circumstances surrounding Claire's death and that no other new family will have to go through what my family and I are currently going through."
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Medway Maritime Hospital - which describes itself as the largest and busiest hospital in Kent - said the trust's sympathies are with the family.
