Woman fights MoD over will of dead boyfriend

Woman fights MoD over will of dead boyfriend
The girlfriend of a soldier who was killed while in Afghanistan is embroiled in a legal dispute with the Ministry of Defence (MoD) concerning his will.

Corporal Rob Deering died in Hellmand Province, which is situated in the south-west of the country, in December last year.

His girlfriend, Gemma Polino, is to receive £10,000 a year from the MoD for the rest of her life.

However, she claims that Mr Deering left her his half-share in a house and the life insurance payout to cover the mortgage in a new will, which the MoD has lost.

The ministry denies losing the document.

Yardley MP John Hemming is supporting her case and has called on the MoD to conduct a thorough search for the document, which was allegedly drawn up in 2008.

A spokesperson for the ministry said: "In the case of Cpl Deering, after extensive searches, we have no records to show that a new will was lodged with us," the Birmingham Post reports.
