Compensation awarded to victims of holiday sickness
A couple who contracted gastroenteritis while on holiday have been awarded compensation of £11,000.
Rebecca Robson was celebrating her birthday and the end of her university exams with her boyfriend Steven Cliff with a Caribbean break at the Bahia Principe hotel in the Dominican Republic.
However, while they were there they began suffering from severe sickness, Garstang Today reports.
Indeed, Mr Cliff's stomach pains became so serious that he had to travel to hospital by ambulance.
Commenting on the condition of the accomodation, he said: "We had no option but to eat in the hotel; it was in the middle of nowhere.
"There was that many people ill, suffering from dehydration, that the complex ran out of bottled water."
According to the couple's legal representative, the hotel displayed a flagrant disregard for the health and safety of holidaymakers.
Gastroenteritis is an infection of the stomach and intestines and its most common symptoms are diarrhoea and vomiting.
