Factory explosion victim receives compensation
A man who was seriously injured when the building he was working in exploded has been awarded a payout.
The individual, who has not been identified by name, had been employed at a factory operated by ICL Plastics and ICL Tech at Grovepark Mills in Maryhill, Glasgow, when the accident happened in May 2004.
Killing nine people and injuring 33 others, the blast has been described as one of the worst factory accidents in modern times.
According to the man's legal team, he was nearly killed in the explosion and has had to have his home adapted in order to accommodate his new care requirements.
Recently, ICL admitted liability for this claim and agreed to pay him an undisclosed sum in an out-of-court settlement.
The money has been calculated to cover the costs of his personal suffering, the domestic modifications he has had to have and the ongoing care he requires.
