An-ex News of the World employee has been successful in his claim of unfair dismissal.
Matt Driscoll worked for the paper - which is published by News International - as a senior sports writer.
During a recent hearing, his claims were supported and a further trial is to take place in order to establish how much compensation should be awarded to him.
He was sacked in April 2007 while on long-term sick leave for depression which was said to be related to stress.
The tribunal found that this depression had arisen directly as a result of bullying behaviour led by Andy Coulson, a former senior editorial executive at the publication.
During the hearing, the panel stated: "We find the behaviour to have been a consistent pattern of bullying behaviour ... with the intention to remove him from their employment, whether through negotiating a settlement package or through a staged process of warnings leading to dismissal."
