Couple take legal action after contracting illnesses
A couple from the south London neighbourhood of Balham are seeking compensation after they contracted illnesses while on holiday.
According to reports in the Wandsworth Guardian, Gisella Crowley and Jeremy Lake travelled to Egypt in May last year.
A few days after arriving at their all-inclusive hotel, they were both struck down with diarrhoea, fever, nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
Ms Crowley alleges that poor food hygiene at the hotel was to blame for her illness, which also impacted on a holiday to Norway taken by the couple immediately after the Egypt vacation.
Upon arrival in the country, she was hospitalised with Shigella, meaning that trip was also ruined.
The 38-year-old said: "I believe that the poor standard of food hygiene at the hotel in Egypt is to blame for my becoming ill.
"I saw food being left out for long periods of time, the salads served up to guests looked substandard and the mayonnaise sauces were warm."
