Injured man receives £250k from ex-employer
A man from Merseyside who was forced into early retirement after a back injury has been awarded £250,000 in compensation.
Mr Smith, a former facilities engineer from Prescot, had been employed by Glen Dimplex Cooking, a manufacturer of cooking products.
He sustained the injury after falling down a grass verge while reading meters at one of the company's buildings.
The 61-year-old had been expected to walk up steps and then a slippery grass verge around the rear of the meter house in order to perform his duties.
He returned to work part-time after being given painkilling injections. However, four months after the fall and following an unsuccessful back operation, he was forced to take early retirement on health grounds.
Glen Dimplex Cooking agreed to settle with Mr Smith and pay out the significant sum three weeks before a hearing was scheduled to take place.
