Bake Muffins For Meso in May
Mesothelioma UK is inviting bakers and muffin makers from across the country to take part in ‘Bake Muffins For Meso in May’, with competition prizes for the best dressed, most unusual and best recipe, all for a very worthy cause.
All funds raised go to Mesothelioma UK, a national specialist resource centre, which supports the patients and families affected by asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma. The charity is dedicated to providing specialist mesothelioma information, support and education and to improving care and treatment for all UK mesothelioma patients and their carers. Mesothelioma UK relies entirely on donations, legacies, fundraising and sponsorship to ensure all services provided free of charge across the UK.
What is Mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer which can occur in the lining of the lungs and the linings of some other organs. It's nearly always caused by breathing in asbestos dust, which causes damage to the cells of the pleura and the outer linings of the lungs and internal chest wall. It's thought that over time, this damage results in changes which can eventually turn them into cancerous cells.
It can take several decades for the symptoms of mesothelioma to manifest, meaning it may be many years after the initial exposure to asbestos when doctors are able to make a diagnosis. We regularly see how this terrible illness affects the lives and families of clients who have come into contact with asbestos, and are very much aware how difficult this time can be.
The work done by Mesothelioma UK, who supports people at this time is invaluable. The chest and asbestos disease team at Slater and Gordon is delighted to take part in this event organised by Natasha Moyeed in our Manchester office.
