Twelve Men Jailed for Child Sex Abuse in Keighley
Twelve men in Keighley, West Yorkshire, have been jailed for sexual offences against a 13-year-old girl.
Eleven of the men received sentences of up to 20 years after a jury at Bradford Crown Court found them guilty of rape. Another man received a five-year prison sentence for sexual activity with a child.
The court heard how, over a 13-month period, the girl was repeatedly assaulted by the men and was made to have sex with them in many public places, including a church graveyard.
Described by the trial judge as “terrible and heartless” the men will no longer be a danger to vulnerable young people in Keighley.
Keighley MP Appeals for Information
Local MP Kris Hopkins has appealed for anyone who knows about child abuse to report it.
Commenting on how Keighley’s reputation had been damaged by “the heinous acts of sick men praying on young girls”, Mr Hopkins said anyone who becomes aware of such activities has “an obligation to pass this information on”.
Slater and Gordon have campaigned for the mandatory reporting of child abuse for some time and have successfully secured compensation for survivors of similar abuse to that carried out in Keighley.
Last week, ten men were convicted at Manchester Crown Court for child abuse in Rochdale carried out over a four-year period. Slater and Gordon abuse solicitors are currently representing survivors of abuse in Rochdale and have acted for many survivors in the past.
