74 People Suffer Food Poisoning from Anson Farm

74 people have suffered food poisoning after eating at Anson Farm in Thornaby, North Yorkshire, with 31 testing positive for salmonella.

The outbreak of food poisoning reportedly occurred before the Teeside Industrial Estate pub carried out a series of control measures, as requested by Public Health England (PHE) and Stockton Council environmental health officers on the 18th of May. The measures were requested following initial reports of 10 people suspected to have suffered food poisoning at Anson Farm. The pub since underwent a deep cleaning of key public-facing areas.

Richard Lewis, the managing director of the Greene King pub, Anson Farm, in Thornaby-on-Tees is “personally overseeing” the outbreak of food poisoning, stating, “In the meantime we have undertaken a deep clean alongside our usual cleaning regime and have imposed further strict procedures that go beyond our already high standards.”

Symptoms of those affected by food poisoning at Anson Farm include vomiting, stomach cramps and diarrhoea.

Salmonella bacteria live in the stomachs of various farm animals, and poisoning is typically contracted by eating affected meat, eggs, poultry and milk. Salmonella poisoning is also contagious among people when it is left untreated.
