Slater and Gordon Lawyers are currently representing a number of victims of sexual abuse at Ashdown House, a preparatory school in East Sussex.
Ashdown House is one of the latest schools to receive allegations of serious and widespread sexual abuse and is a feeder school to Eton. The abuse is alleged to have taken place between 1970 and 1980 and involves a number of teachers.
It has been alleged that those in positions of authority at the preparatory school had knowledge of the abuse but failed to take steps to protect the children. Unfortunately, this is common place in many cases as institutions have focussed on protecting their reputation instead of the vulnerable children they are responsible for. It is reported that a police investigation was commenced in 2003 following an allegation of sexual abuse relating to the mid 1970s; however no members of staff were prosecuted.
We are in the early stages of investigation and are keen to hear from anyone that has been affected or has any information which may assist. Our specialist abuse team are experienced in acting for victims of sexual abuse at schools and other institutions and understand the devastating and life long effects abuse can have on individuals.
We also understand the difficulties people face when speaking out. We are able to support individuals through this process and hope to assist victims to achieve a sense of justice and receive the treatment they require.
