Abuse Lawyer talks about the HMIC report on the Savile cases
The HMIC published their report into allegations and intelligence material concerning Jimmy Savile on Tues 12/3. The report was entitled “Mistakes were Made”
The title of the report says it all.
Slater and Gordon representing 65 of Savile’s victims appeared on various new broadcasts endorsing the recommendations of the review. Slater and Gordon's Abuse Lawyer stated in particular that victims did feel isolated and many only took sufficient confidence to give statements to the police when they knew that they were not alone . The Abuse Lawyer also appeared on Sky news and BBC news endorsing the HMIC recommendation that there be mandatory reporting by those in authority. Many of our clients did report their abuse to members of staff but their complaints were not acted upon. If mandatory reporting had been in existence , Savile may have been caught and some victims spared.
Since the publication of the HMIC report, Slater and Gordon's Abuse Lawyer has also commented in the media about the low level of reported false allegations refereed to by the DPP and how the public’s over zealous concern of false reports must not deter victims for reporting.
Today we hear that more celebrity arrests are due to be made soon. Although our Abuse Lawyer is already representing claimants in respect of allegations against other well known persons arising out of the Savile investigations, there is absolutely no difference to an abused victim whether they are abused by someone famous or not. The end results are all equally devastating.
