Clinical Negligence Solicitor Rebecca Brown on how Paterson may not be the only rogue breast surgeon...
I have been contacted by a patient who was operated on at the Royal Bolton Hospital by a surgeon who has now retired. The victim has confirmed she was subjected to a Mastectomy in which not all of her breast tissue and muscle were removed - the very same operation Mr Paterson was giving to Breast Cancer patients in Birmingham, and was banned for being unsafe. She is now due to undergo a full Mastectomy due to fears of a recurrence of her Cancer.
The concern is that Ian Paterson's methods may have been copied by other surgeons. This is the first time we have been alerted to a similar procedure to the one used by Ian Paterson being performed by another surgeon. We would ask that the Royal Bolton NHS Foundation Trust investigate these matters immediately and notify any patients who may be at risk. I also encourage anyone who thinks they might have received this procedure to seek appropriate medical help immediately.
